Christopher Atkinson has worked as a Notary Public since 1993, when he passed the professional qualification exams.

These are additional exams to those necessary to qualify as a Solicitor - he qualified to practise as a Solicitor in 1977.

Christopher is a member of the Notaries Society and a past President of the Bradford Law Society.

He now has over thirty five years experience of legal work in West Yorkshire.

In 2008 he ceased practising as a Solicitor and now works as a full time Notary Public.

This enables him more easily to react without delay to the often urgent nature of Notarial business.
   

The principal function of a Notary Public is to substantiate evidence of human activities. Some functions are listed below:

  • attest to the execution and signature of documents
  • authenticate the execution of documents
  • authenticate the contents of documents; administer oaths and declarations
  • draw up and extend protests of happenings to ships, crews and cargo
  • present bills of exchange for acceptance and payment; attend upon the drawing of bonds
  • draw mercantile documents, deeds, agreements, wills for use in Britain, the Commonwealth and foreign countries
  • make and verify the making of translations from foreign languages into English and vice versa
  • take evidence in England and Wales as a commissioner for foreign courts


 
A notary certifies identity in connection with commercial and personal, international business transactions. For example:-  

  • Commercial contracts and trade or business agreements
  • Your MyNotary can notarise and legalise documents in connection with real estate transactions all over the world.  And deal with any necessary further certification for countries not party to the Hague Convention: e.g. UAE, China, Cape Verde

  • To legalise/apostille documents at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
  • To prepare and or witness Powers of Attorney
  • Statutory declaration witnessing for making a pension claim, proof of being alive, an affidavit of loss
  • Certify copies of translations, passports, birth certificates, death certificates and grants of probate when claiming inheritance overseas
  • When adopting children or to obtain a visa for a child to travel
  • To sponsor relatives from abroad or in connection with travel documentation and work permits
